Project Manager – Nature-Based Solutions – Building Flood Resilience in the Lismore Catchment

About Richmond Landcare Incorporated (RLI):

Richmond Landcare Incorporated is a non-profit community-led Landcare network formed in 1998 to support Landcare in the Richmond River catchment.

RLI provides support to new and established Landcare groups and our wider community through partnerships with local environmental organisations and councils in the Richmond Catchment. We facilitate best-practice management of land and water across all landscapes.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Project Manager to lead the implementation of a nature-based solutions project aimed at enhancing flood resilience in the Lismore Local Government Area (LGA). This project aims to utilize nature-based approaches to reduce flood risk, protect communities, and enhance the natural environment. The Project Manager will play a pivotal role in coordinating and managing all aspects of the project, including scope, schedule, finance, risk, quality and resources.

Responsibilities:

1. Project Planning and Strategy:

• Develop a comprehensive project plan, including objectives, timelines, and resource allocation.
• Identify and engage stakeholders, including government agencies, community organizations, and relevant experts.
• Collaborate with key stakeholders to define project goals, strategies, and desired outcomes.
• Conduct research and analysis to inform the development of nature-based solutions for flood resilience.

2. Project Implementation and Coordination:

• Lead the successful execution of project activities, ensuring adherence to timelines and budgets.
• Manage part-time, casual staff and contractors
• Coordinate with internal and external teams to ensure effective project implementation.
• Facilitate communication and collaboration among project partners and stakeholders.
• Monitor project progress and provide regular updates to senior management and stakeholders.
• Address any challenges or issues that arise during project implementation.

3. Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

• Foster positive relationships with key stakeholders, including local communities, government agencies, and NGOs.
• Foster meaningful engagement and establish connections with Traditional Owners, emphasizing the integration of First Nations Land Management principles throughout the project. Prioritize extensive consultation with key First Nations stakeholders and actively engage in culturally sensitive practices.
• Organise and facilitate stakeholder meetings, workshops, and public consultations.
• Communicate project objectives, progress, and outcomes to stakeholders through various channels.
• Respond to stakeholder inquiries and concerns in a timely and professional manner.

4. Monitoring and Evaluation:

• Develop and implement a monitoring and evaluation framework to assess the effectiveness of nature-based solutions.
• Collect and analyse flood resilience, ecosystem health, and community engagement data.
• Generate regular reports on project milestones and outcomes while ensuring compliance with reporting requirements specified by the funding body.
• Provide frequent updates and reports to senior management, highlighting lessons learned and recommending future initiatives.
• Conduct meticulous tracking of project expenditure throughout the project’s duration.
• Continuously identify opportunities for project improvement and adaptation based on evaluation results.

Selection Criteria:

The specific competencies, knowledge, qualifications, training and experience that are required to fill this role

Essential:

• Bachelor’s degree or Master’s in environmental science, natural resource management, or equivalent industry experience.
• Proven experience in project management, preferably in the field of environmental or sustainability projects.
• Knowledge of nature-based solutions, habitat restoration techniques and ecosystem management.
• Demonstrated proficiency in managing large project budgets and people planning and resources.
• Experience and or understanding of working with First Nations groups and communities.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, facilitating effective engagement and collaboration with stakeholders and the community.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
• Current driver’s licence.

Desirable:

• Familiarity with the Lismore LGA and its environmental challenges.
• Existing networks within the Richmond River Catchment communities and key organisations.
• Experience working with disaster-affected communities.
• Knowledge of floodplain lowland subtropical rainforest ecosystems
